The late baroque Vääna manor house was built for the von Stackelbergs family by an Italian architect in the 1790s. All interiors were decorated with wall and ceiling paintings. The most likely author of the paintings was German Paridon Jacob Neus, von Stackelberg’s drawing teacher from 1797. The interiors of Vääna manor house were first covered with wallpapers in the middle of 19th century. A great amount of wallpapers have survived till today. They are partly exhibited in situ but most of them are removed and archived. The main reason for wallpaper removal was the will to exhibit the paintings by Neus during the restoration in 2013-2015.
