In both medicine and material sciences the study of X-ray method has remained since 1895 the most important imaging diagnostic method of subject or object capabilities.
X-rays are used for artefacts diagnostic purposes to uncover and interpret the traces of tool marks, defects, damages and traces of differences in the chemical composition of substances in otherwise opaque, non-see-through art objects.
A regular x-ray will demonstrate a two dimensional recording of the three dimensional object, after it has been penetrated by x-rays. The changes in tonality will help to make visible the tool marks of the artist and different materials or their composition.
The poster will offer selected examples of artefacts from the collection of The Art Museum of Estonia and the studies carried out in recent decades, characterized by works from Estonian art such as Jaan Vahtra´s "Self Portrait" and by other Western European art.
